Mendota Juvenile Treatment Center

Mendota Juvenile Treatment Center (MJTC) is a secure mental health treatment facility where the MJTC approach to treating youth was innovated. Several studies demonstrate that young people treated with the MJTC approach committed significantly fewer crimes after release. MJTC patients receive care, encouragement, treatment, and education, which with the gradual development of trust, brings about more acceptable choices and personal esteem and autonomy. Through individual and group activities and classes focused on social and problem solving skills, accepting responsibility, resolving and managing mental health issues, and building healthy relationships, the MJTC approach supports successful reintegration of young people into their communities. MJTC operates under the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
